Brittany Collins, a graduating senior from Donaldsonville High School and Early College Option, is among an elite group of high school scholars.
She recently was chosen as one of 300 students from across the country to be named a Gates Scholar and a member of The Gates Scholarship inaugural class of 2018.
The scholarship program is funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Through the program, Gates Scholars receive access to mentoring, academic support, career and internship guidance, advice, internship and job opportunities and online courses, a news release said.
Collins recently graduated with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree from River Parishes Community College. She plans to enroll at LSU with a future goal of becoming a pediatric oncologist.
