The annual Festival of Friends, a fair to raise money for St. John Primary and St. Theresa Middle schools, kicks off Friday with food, carnival rides and music.
With the theme “Mardi Gras Mambo with the Krewe of SJF/STA,” the fair is on the grounds of St. Theresa, 212 E. New River St., in Gonzales.
Friday night’s menu includes seafood gumbo, catfish Theresa, shrimp and crab etouffee and chicken stew.
On Saturday, things get started at 8 a.m. with a fun run, and a mini-pot jambalaya cooking contest starts at 10 am.
The kitchen open at 11 a.m. with chicken and sausage gumbo, jambalaya, chicken spaghetti and fried fish for sale.
A country store opens at 11 a.m. in the gym, and the carnival ride will have a special price of $20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students will perform from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the LSU game will be televised at 7 p.m.
Local disc jockey Mike Waguespack will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday’s lineup includes a variety of food for sale, student performances from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the winners of the quilt and $1,000 drawings will be named at 6:15 p.m.
Ticket for both drawings will be sold at the fair.
Handicapped parking and parking for the meal pick-ups will be available in the church parking lot next to the cemetery.
