Looking for a family-friendly way to celebrate early this weekend?

Why not spend some time in Donaldsonville and check out the annual Third of July celebration and fireworks show in Crescent Park near the Mississippi River levee?

The party starts in Crescent Park, 112 Crescent Park Drive, with the Avenue Cruisers starting the evening with music and the opportunity to jitterbug and visit.

The Allison Collins Band will entertain the crowd starting at 8 p.m. until the fireworks start.

A variety of food and drinks will be sold and a fireworks show starts around dark.

School uniform distribution

Volunteer Ascension is again collecting school uniforms for Ascension Parish children in need. Drop off gently used school uniforms by Thursday, July 9, at any of the following locations: Dutch’s Cleaners, LeJeune’s, Sacs Western Store, The Uniform Post and Kean’s in Gonzales and Prairieville.

All collected and purchased uniforms will be sent to area schools for distribution on prep day or another day of the school’s choosing.

“Although we were able to reach many through our annual two-day distribution events, we realize that there are still so many others that are in need,” Executive Director Sherry Denig said in a news release. “By getting these uniforms in the hands of school counselors, we are confident that the children that need these uniforms most will certainly get them.”

Contact your school for information on uniforms or distribution dates.

Offices closed for holiday
