The Dutchtown Sound marching band ended its competition season Saturday with a bang, earning all 1s and sweepstakes scores at the 2014 Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands in Lafayette.

The band earned the highest scores possible in the band, auxiliary, percussion and drum major categories, a news release said

The Dutchtown Sound competed with seven other bands in its class. A total of 34 bands took to Cajun Field at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette during the all-day event.

Band director at Dutchtown High School Sheily Bell said she is pleased with the band’s accomplishments this year.

“We could see improvements from week to week,” she said.

In October, the Dutchtown Sound received all superiors at the Morgan City Marching Band Competition and later hosted 18 bands on its campus with an exhibition performance during the 10th annual Dutchtown Marching Band Competition.

“We are so appreciative of all the hard work put in by the students, staff and parents to make this season such a success. I couldn’t ask for more,” Bell said. “Our new assistant band director, Daniel Modenbach, was a huge factor in our accomplishments. I love our Dutchtown high band family.”
