Several Ascension Parish students and residents attended the state Special Olympics held May 23-15 in Hammond.
The athletes all received medals.
Taking part from Ascension Parish were K’von Albert, Mikayla Andresen, Daisy Badillo, Callie Howe, Victoria Martin, Dylan Regira and Mila Trammell.
Former students Katie Westerfield, Amanda Freitas and Jessica Williams also competed in the games.
Local results included:
Victoria Martin: Silver medal in 50-meter run and softball throw; and bronze in standing long jump.
Dylan Regira: Gold, 50-meter run; silver, standing long jump; and bronze, softball throw.
Daisy Badillo: Gold, 400-meter run, mini-javelin, 100-meter run and running long jump.
Mila Trammell: Silver, softball throw and standing long jump; fourth, 50-meter run.
Kvon Albert: Gold, 200-meter wheelchair race, 400-meter wheelchair race and 100-meter wheelchair race; silver, shot put.
Mikayla Andresen: Gold, 25-meter walk and tennis ball throw.
Callie Howe: Gold, standing long jump and softball throw; silver, 50-meter run.
Freitas won gold in the running long jump; silver, shot put; and bronze, 200-meter run.
Westerfield won a gold medal in the standing long jump; silver, shot put. Williams captured gold medals in the softball throw, 100-meter run and standing long jump.
Daisy and K’von are representing Louisiana at the National Special Olympics in New Jersey, which began Friday.
