The Donaldsonville Tigers football team is not only starting a new school year and a new football season, but they will have to face moving to a new district as well.

The team started the 2015 fall practice session moving to compete in District 6-3A. Their new district opponents will be University High, Parkview Baptist, West Feliciana, Brusly, Baker, Glen Oaks and Port Allen.

Most of the offensive linemen are returning starters, so the running game will be the best bet third-year coach Benny Guilbeaux will have to rely on for some offensive punch this season. The ground game will be the determining factor for the Tigers’ offense and their results in district play for a shot at the playoffs.

The defensive line also will be the focal point as the Tigers hope to stop the running game. The rush on opposing quarterbacks will be an important element in halting the passing game of their opponents.

The Tigers will face Assumption and White Castle, two of their fiercest opponents from Class 3A last season, but the games to watch will be when district play begins — including against West Feliciana early on and then Division II runner-up Parkview Baptist. The Tigers finish the regular season with Division II champions University High.

The Tigers officially crank off the 2015 season on Aug. 27 as they head down the river to face St. James in a jamboree.
