Homeowners interested in learning more about growing fruits in their home garden are invited to LSU AgCenter’s Backyard Fruit Production Symposium from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 3 in the LSU AgCenter Extension Office at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, Gonzales.

Presenters will be local extension agents Mariah Simoneaux, of St. James/Assumption parishes; Craig Roussel, of Ascension/St. James parishes; and Raj Singh, LSU plant pathology professor.

Topics will include general fruit production practices and insect and disease management. Indoor presentations, pruning and fertilization demonstrations will be held in the demonstration fruit orchard at the expo center. Crops to be covered include blueberries, blackberries, citrus, figs, grapes, apples and pears.
