The final rehearsals are underway this week for Saturday night’s Dancing for a Cause, a fundraiser featuring 10 dance couples vying to raise money for Community Opportunities — The Arc of East Ascension.
COEA — The ARC of East Ascension is a nonprofit group raising awareness and enhancing the quality of life for residents with disabilities through services and advocacy that support choice, independence and dignity, agency Executive Director Norma Dukes said.
Tickets for the event, which is at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center Trademart Building at 7 p.m., are available at the agency’s Gonzales office, area LeBlanc’s Food Stores and at the door.
Dancers include Kathy Kliebert, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals secretary; Ty Fowler, vice president of the Ascension Parish NAACP; Diane Kirby, Our Lady of the Lake Physicians; Kayla Frederic, Airline Glass & Upholstery; Cindy Plaia, St. Joseph Hospice; Harold Stewart, Gonzales City Council; Jack LeBlanc, owner of Bounce N’ Around Inflatables & More; Todd Long, Ledet’s Car Dealership; Jody Elisar, past world champion jambalaya cook; and Darryl Comery, associate principal at Donaldsonville High School.
The announcers for the event are Mark Dearman, general manager of Rubicon, and Whitney Vann, host of “Weekends With Whitney.”
