Maerys Joseph, an Ascension Catholic High School junior, was honored Sept. 4 by Ascension Parish officials for placing 29th overall at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics Championships earlier this summer in Humble, Texas.

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez presented Joseph a parish certificate of achievement during a Parish Council meeting in Donaldsonville.

Joseph, who represented the Future Track Club and trained under coach Trent Ellis, set a personal record of 58:14 in the 400-meter run.

In the district competition, Joseph ran 400 meters in 59:50 and 800 meters in 2:23:49. She placed seventh in the 400-meter competition and third in the 800-meter run, winning the bronze medal.
