The Ascension Braves 12 and under AA team won the Tiger Town Showdown on Feb. 22 at Oak Villa Park in Baton Rouge.

It was the first tournament of the season for the team, a news release said.

The team won four of five games played.

The team’s performance was led by three older members, Alston Rivera, Broc Becnel and Gentry Durbin, the release said.

Alston pitched 61?3 innings during the weekend tournament and batted .500 with 7 hits including a double and a triple.

Broc Becnel pitched 52?3 innings and hit a two-run double in the first elimination game to seal the victory. Gentry Durbin smashed a walk-off line drive to win the semifinal game after trailing 3-0. The tying run of that game was scored by Mason Morgan on a suicide squeeze bunt laid down by Blake Lebouef.

Jasen Templet played right field in the championship game providing two key outs and a close play at the plate, the release said.

Justin Hawkins, Landen Smith and Mason Morgan rounded out the pitching for the Braves’ tournament play.

Landen Smith batted 500 for the weekend including three bunts, and Collin Dupre batted .429 with 7 RBI’s.
