Republican Bill Dawson has announced his candidacy for Ascension Parish Council District 2 seat.
Dawson, 66, said his experience in the private sector and volunteer positions in Ascension Parish qualify him to serve on the Parish Council.
Dawson retired from ExxonMobil after 30 years of service in 2004. His work included various positions at the Baton Rouge Refinery and a two-year assignment in South America.
After retiring from ExxonMobil, he started a consulting business, which he continues to operate.
In 2009, he served on the Ascension Parish Charter Review Commission and serves as president of the Pelican Point Homeowners Association. He is chairman of Ascension Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, served on the board of directors of the 5th Ward Volunteer Fire Department for about eight years and served for six years on the River Region Cancer Screening board of directors.
He served in the Louisiana National Guard from 1969 to 1975 in the 20th Special Forces Group, spending one year on active duty and five years in the active reserves.
“I was trained at LSU in engineering management and hold a U.S. patent on an environmental recovery system,” he said.
Dawson’s been married to Pam Devillier Dawson for 45 years, and they have one son, Chris, who is married to Carter Murray Dawson. He is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
