Crime prevention session to be held
Sgt. Joey Meyers, of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, is set to talk to area seniors about crime prevention during an 11 a.m. Wednesday presentation at the Gonzales Senior Center, 536 Irma Blvd.
Lunch, which costs $1.10 for residents age 60 and older, will be served. Call ahead for lunch reservations at (225) 621-5750.
Meyers is the programs director for the Sheriff’s Office, where among other responsibilities he manages the Seniors and Lawmen Together program.
Voter registration suit to be discussed
Lionel Rainey III will be the featured speaker at the Ascension GOP Roundtable at 11:30 a.m. April 18 at Brew-Bacher’s Grill, 909 E. Ascension St., Gonzales.
The roundtable is sponsored by Ascension Republican Women.
Rainey, of LR 3 Consulting, is set to talk about the Department of Justice’s suit against the state of Louisiana and a number of state agencies and officials alleging that Louisiana’s governmental agencies “were not registering recipients of state benefits to vote with sufficient vigor,” a news release from the ARW says.
Cost for the meal is $14.

Park concert set to benefit museum
Registration is under way for the Gospel in the Park concert May 4 in Jambalaya Park.
The concert is a benefit for the River Road African American Museum.
“The purpose of the event is to unite the local communities in a day of praise through song,” organizer Darryl Hambrick said.

Library hosts day of beanstalk events
Journey up the beanstalk with Jack to find good times and adventure in a magical land, high above.
The “Fee-Fi-Fo-Fun: Jack and the Beanstalk” program is planned on April 18 at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville.
Watch the story unfold on the big screen as the hero attempts to slay the mighty giant and return home to his mother.
Play “Pin the Giant on the Beanstalk,” and in honor of Earth Day, plant a bean seed in a cup.
The program begins at 6 p.m., and registration is required.

Theater workshops scheduled for June
Drama Kids International is operating Ascension Community Theatre’s summer camps, ACT officials have announced.
The drama workshops will be held June 10-14, June 17-21 and June 24-28 in Gonzales.
Instruction will include information on writing, movement, vocal techniques and design of sets, props and costumes.
Youths ages 3 to 18 can attend for a $250 fee for a one-week session.
