Berta Carter's love of Elvis Presley was clear Friday as she pulled a tiny "Blue Suede Shoes"-themed float around the Gonzales Senior Center.

The shoe-box float featured pictures of record albums and Elvis Presley and a pair of blue suede shoes.

Carter had one of 27 entries in the Ascension Council on Aging's annual Senior Center Mardi Gras Party in Gonzales. More than 100 seniors from the Gonzales and Donaldsonville senior centers attended the party.

The seniors paraded around the center showing off their decorated floats and costumes for the judges.

Shay Saltzman, Loretta Johnson, Dawn Russo, Leslie Koch and Meredith Cronon led the second-line dancers and king cake was served.

Zenobia Kensey was crowned queen of the festivities and Thomas Winberly was king.

Other floats featured dolls dressed as Zulu queens, stuffed animals, action figures and lots of Mardi Gras decorations.
