Advocate staff photo by Darlene Denstorff -- East Ascension High School will hold its mattress sale from 10 am. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 in the school's gym. The school's past sales, including this one from 2013, raise money for school clubs and projects.

Most people don't think of a mattress sale as a viable fundraising mechanism for a high school. The staff at East Ascension High School would say they are wrong.

The school has been successful in raising tens of thousands of dollars and set national sales records since it started the mattress sale five years ago.

This year's sale also will benefit St. Amant High School, which was closed after the August flood.

Shoppers can purchase mattresses from 10 am. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at East Ascension's gym, a news release said.

There will be more than 25 different mattresses to choose from in all sizes, including twin, full, queen, king, California king and even adjustable beds and special sizes.

The gym is turned into a mattresses showroom so customers can try out different selections, including plush sets, pillow-tops, latex, memory foam, gel beds and much more.

The mattresses are name brand with full factory warranties and all will be priced up to 50 percent below retail price, the release said.

Bed frames, luxury pillows, mattress protectors, layaway and home delivery also will be available.

All forms of payment will be accepted and profits will go directly to East Ascension High School, which is sharing profits with St. Amant High.

To accommodate residents with flood-damaged homes, delayed delivery can be arranged, the release said.
