The Ascension Christian High School theater students performed “100 Years of Broadway” during a recent production.
The show included more than 60 of the most popular Broadway show tunes that were recognizable by nearly everyone in the audience, a news release from the school said.
The show was directed by Alicia Morton, an Ascension Parish residents who has performed on Broadway as Cosette in “Les Misé rables” in 1996 and in the 1999 movie “Annie.” Morton has been working with the theater department at Ascension Christian High for four years.
“I am so proud of what these talented young performers have accomplished in such a short period of time,” Morton said. “The choreography for this show was difficult, but they mastered it. We started rehearsals on day one of this semester, and the show was exceptional.”
Ascension Christian High students was treated to a surprise performance during the school day as the theater students organized a flash mob in the halls of the school. Both teachers and students were shocked, but enjoyed the disruption from the normal school day, the release said.
