Joyce LaCour, Ascension Republican women president, presented the prizes. Parish President Tommy Martinez presided over the ceremony.

The contest, which gives students in the Ascension middle and high schools an opportunity to express their thoughts on the meaning of Veterans Day, is chaired by Diane Cosenza, ARW corresponding secretary.

The first-place winner was Brittany Collins, a seventh-grade honor student at Lowery Middle School. Brittany, a 4.0 student, received a $100 prize for her entry.

Reagan Lee, a seventh-grader at Prairieville Middle School, won $75 for her second-place finish. Reagan is a member of Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
