Local residents were among more than 125 students honored during the Summer Recognition Ceremony held Oct. 16 in Treen Auditorium at Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches.

Christopher Carter, a senior from Geismar, was recognized for summer research. Carter conducted biological research at the University of Louisiana at Monroe Pre-College Summer Program.

Emily Schultz, a senior from Gonzales, also was recognized for summer research. Schultz conducted research at the UCLA Electrical Engineering Lab through the High School Summer Research Program.

Rachel Sheffield, a senior from Prairieville, was recognized for leadership and community service. Sheffield served as a tour guide at Cane River Creole National Park and conducted archaeological work at Poverty Point National Monument.

Students recognized for scoring well on an advanced placement exam include Schultz and Josef Hofman, a senior from Gonzales.

Students recognized for participation in the Future Scientist Program include Carter; Nikhil Gopalam, a senior from Prairieville; Hofman; Ian Sager, a junior from Geismar; Schultz; and Gabrielle Yoes-Favrot, a junior from Gonzales.

Carter was recognized for participation in the Spanish Scholars Program.

Members of the National Honor Society are Carter, Hofman, Schultz, Yoes-Favrot and Sheffield.
