Armed with electronic building blocks, circuits, batteries and energy, the Ascension Parish library system and A Little Bit of Steam, a group from the Ascension Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Leadership Ascension Class, are organizing a series of activities this spring to turn the library into invention labs.
Middle-school students will be challenged to invent, a news release from the leadership team said. Students can create robots, droids, gadgets and other items. The goal is to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists and inventors and inspire students to learn more about science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
A Little Bit of Steam obtained sponsorship support from BASF, Methanex, A Better Mail Service, Pelican State Credit Union and Trecon, and continues to seek more support to complete the project.
Anyone interested in helping out can email A Little Bit of Steam at email@example.com or call Karen Hatcher at (225) 253-1675.
Several businesses have set special offers to help with the program. If Leadership Ascension is mentioned at check-out, Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage of all proceeds on March 3. Mooyah’s will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 5. Rotolo's will donate 20 percent of all proceeds from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on March 13.
