Tamiko Terraz Stroud, 16, was crowned the first Miss Donaldsonville Teen 2015 on Saturday at the Lemann Memorial Center in Donaldsonville.

Pretty With a Purpose CEO Bria Virgil presented the crown at the conclusion of the pageant.

The Pretty With a Purpose organization, founded by Virgil, is centered on building young girls’ confidence, a news release said. The Pretty With a Purpose pageants provide a local platform through dedicated partnerships with charities and sponsors.

Stroud, of Donaldsonville, also picked up the Miss Photogenic Award. Tracee Monique Albert, of Vidalia, was first runner-up and received the Miss Congeniality Award. Second runner-up was Whitney Baker, of Donaldsonville.

Stroud is a junior at Donaldsonville High and dually enrolled at River Parish Community College in the Early College Options Program. She is president of Donaldsonville’s Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council and a member of the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council.

Stroud has performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, has written and copyrighted two songs and has been recognized by the River Road African-American Museum for her participation in its Sign Language Ensemble.

Judges included Cathy McLeod, Miss Black Teen Louisiana U.S. Ambassador and cofounder of the nonprofit ABLE; Michael Key, also known as Kool DJ SupaMike, the official DJ for the MTV2 2 Dollar Bill Tour; Amber Nicole Shelby, former coordinator and member of the Collegiate 100 Black Women of Southern University; Felicity DuPont, a former model for About Faces Modeling & Talent Agency who currently consults for Mary Kay; and state Sen. Troy Brown, of Geismar.

Local performers and guest vocalists Kaelan Levy and Kentrell “Fresh” Benett hosted the competition.

Contestants were judged in five categories: talent, interview, athletic wear, fun fashion and evening gown.

Organizers said the Miss Donaldsonville Teen 2015 pageant supports the River Road African-American Museum, which will receive proceeds of the pageant.
