Waguespack, DMC face off in championship _lowres

Waguespack Insurance played DMC for the Gonzales Machine Pitch Championship on June 13 at Bergeron and Gaudin Memorial Park in Gonzales.

Waguespack was the visiting team and got off to a fast start in the first inning, a news release said.

The scoring started when Gavin Higgins hit a triple to score Zach Dotter for first run. Two batters later, Kale Guitrau’s triple scored Braxton Billingsley. Later in the inning, Brayden Zeller’s double plated Max Brodnax to give Waguespack six first-inning runs.

DMC answered in the bottom of the first with RBI singles from Reid Truax and Cohen Robert. Andrew Bourque hit an RBI double but was thrown out at third on a relay throw from Cade Delaune to Higgins to end the inning with Waguespack leading 6-3.

Waguespack picked up where they left off in the second and scored six more runs to take a 12-3 lead into the third. A 17-3 final score gave Waguespack an undefeated season and back-to-back city championships.

Waguespack’s 22-hit attack was led with three hits each by Delaune, Higgins and Guitrau. Dotter, Billingsley, Zeller, Jonas Ecker and Kane Guitrau all had 2 hits each. Kale Guitrau led the team with four RBIs, followed by Billingsley with three RBIs. Higgins and Brodnax each finished the game with two RBIs.
