Treasures of the Arc, a resale shop operated by Community Opportunities — The Arc of East Ascension, has announced new hours of operation.

The shop, at 108 E. Ascension St., Gonzales, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Personal health seminar to be hosted at libraries

Ascension Parish Library is hosting a series of health education seminars starting in September at its Dutchtown and Gonzales branches.

“Personal Health Information: How to Access, Manage and Protect It,” will be the first in a series of health education seminars sponsored by St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Charla Johnson, with Community and Provider Education at St. Elizabeth Hospital, will lead the discussion for the seminars at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Gonzales library and Sept. 18 at the Dutchtown branch.

The series will include of a variety of public health seminars designed to help educate and inspire people to be more proactive about their health and the health of the community, a news release from the library said.

The seminar will explore how to manage and understand personal health records in order to make informed health decisions.

A representative from the library will discuss health-related library resources available to the community.

Trooper visits the library to discuss safety issues

A Louisiana state trooper is visiting Ascension Parish libraries in September to discuss several safety issues.

Louisiana State Trooper Jared Sandifer will speak Sept. 8 in Donaldsonville, Sept. 17 in Gonzales, Sept. 22 in Galvez and Sept. 25 in Dutchtown. All programs will take place at 6:30 p.m.

The program is designed for children ages 4 to 8, but everyone is welcome, a news release from the library said.
