Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeens were recognized at the Ascension Parish School Board meeting on Jan. 19.

This year’s honored teens are Alexis Anderson, Gonzales Middle; Cassie Cook, Lake Elementary; Rachel Cusick, Ethan Dixon and Haiden Warner, all of St. Amant High; John Ryan Denig, Kara Law and Kayla Winey, all of Dutchtown High; Joshua Law, Prairieville Middle; and Allie St. Pierre, home-schooled.

In addition to a School Board resolution, the students received volunteer service pins from Nicholaus Auck, director of volunteer outreach for the Volunteer Louisiana Commission, a news release said.

“This important program instills lifelong lessons of service and civic duty while directly benefiting Ascension Parish. It is very likely these teens will one day serve in prominent leadership roles throughout our communities,” Superintendent Patrice Pujol said.

ConnecTeens, now in its 14th year, is a Volunteer Ascension program that matches young volunteers with areas of real need throughout the parish. Members volunteered in 150 activities with 19 agencies and donated 1,064 hours of service to the community in 2015.
