Erin Roach, a Prairieville resident and senior at Dutchtown High School, recently won a first-place award and a second-place award in a local 18-week-long barrel racing series.

Roach, 17, and her horse, Priscilla, won first place in the 2D division of the weekly Tuesday Turn-N-Burn Sizzling Saddle Series. Roach and her other horse, Ivy, won second place in the 4D division. The divisions are based on the fastest times of the horse and rider.

Roach was presented a first place certificate for a customized Cactus Saddlery barrel racing saddle by Jana Jarreau Browning, coordinator of the barrel racing series and weekly Tuesday Turn-N-Burn event.

Browning also presented Roach with a customized horse blanket. The series was held at the Louis A. Mouch Jr. Multi-Purpose Facility in Port Allen from June 3 through Sept. 30.

Roach is a member of the Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo Association and participates in the Baton Rouge Barrel Racing Association, the New Wave Rodeo Club, the Ascension Equestrian Riding Club and the National Barrel Horse Association – District 4.

She is a member of the track-and-field team at Dutchtown High School, where she competes as a varsity pole vaulter. She was recently elected as a member of the school’s 2014 homecoming court.
