The Gonzales Fraternal Order of Police hosted an awards and birthday party April 17 for the Gonzales Police Department.

Police officers and leaders attended the celebration, which marked the department’s 93rd birthday, at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center in Gonzales, a news release from the Gonzales Police Department said.

The awards included three Medal of Valor awards, three lifesaving commendations, two distinguished service awards, one meritorious service award, the Chief’s Award for Unit of the Year, Officer of the Year Award and Reserve Officer of the Year Award.

Receiving Medals of Valor were Corp. David Breaux, Officer John McCoy and Sgt. Martin Mapp.

Warrants Officer Gerard Breaux and Motors Officer Anthony Cantrelle were awarded lifesaving commendations.

Det. Carey Cannon and Range Safety Officer Derek LeBlanc were presented distinguished service awards.

Officer Troy Berkholtz received a meritorious service award.

The Chief’s Award for Unit of the Year went to the honor guard, which included Field Training Officer Walter Taylor, Derek LeBlanc, Corp. Randy Clouatre Jr., Field Training Officer Brent Amy, Det. Jacob Ory, Officer Jimmie Dunaway, Field Training Officer Tyson Dennis and Field Training Officer Duane Carpenter.

Officer Stephen Ussery received the Officer of the Year award and Reserve Officer Gregory Neff won the Reserve Officer of the Year honor.
