The top 20 finalists for the Ascension Fund’s Ascension Idol-Voice contest have been named.

The 20 middle and high school students will compete for the singing title March 27 during the nonprofit agency’s fifth annual fundraiser. Finalists were selected after a round of preliminary auditions.

The event raises money for teacher and school grant programs in Ascension Parish schools.

Each contestant will perform one song for the panel of local celebrity judges. Based on the judges’ scores, the top five will perform a second song and then the first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced, said Jennifer deFrances, Ascension Fund executive director.

Judges will include Charlotte Guedry, Darryl Hambrick, Jenny Heroman, Julie Jones and Mike Waguespack.

The first-place winner will receive a trip to Disney World. Second-place wins a large screen HDTV. Third-place gets an iPad Mini.

During the event, spectators will be able to cast votes for $1 in the Fan Favorite contest.

Tickets to the show are $10 for general admission or $5 for student admission and can be purchased in advance by calling deFrances at (225) 290-3322 or emailing info@ascensionidol.com.
