Attorney General Buddy Caldwell will be the keynote speaker May 15 at the Ascension GOP Roundtable.
The event, sponsored by Ascension Republican Women, starts at 11:30 a.m. at Philay’s Catfish & More, 13386 U.S. 61, Gonzales.
Caldwell was sworn in as Louisiana’s 43rd attorney general on Jan. 14, 2008. He served for 29 years as the district attorney for the parishes of East Carroll, Madison and Tensas.

Free plant health clinic set
The LSU Agricultural Center and Ascension Master Gardeners will hold a free plant health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon May 17 at Louisiana Nursery, 39245 La. 42, Prairieville.
The LSU AgCenter’s Dan Gill, turf and weed specialist Ron Strahan, Nick Singh and horticulture agent Craig Roussel will be on hand to answer questions on vegetables and landscape plants and to identify disease, insect and weed samples. Ascension Master Gardeners will assist and provide information. Soil sample kits will be available.

Learn about senior survey
Residents are invited to attend a meeting at noon May 21 at the Gonzales Senior Center to discuss the results of a needs assessment survey completed by more than 1,600 seniors in a 10-parish area.
Capital Area Agency on Aging is sponsoring the meeting.
Art exhibition slated
The River Region Art Association is hosting its “River Region Community Art Classes Exhibition” on May 11 through May 16 at the art depot, 1008 W. La. 30, Gonzales.
The association will hold a closing reception for the exhibition from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 16.
The exhibition features work completed by students participating in the 2013 and 2014 River Region community art classes and their instructors. The exhibition will run May 11–16.
The association also is hosting a jewelry trunk show and wine tasting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 17 at the gallery.
The show will showcase the work of 11 participating jewelers and will include complimentary wine tasting with Mickey Sommelier, of LeBlanc’s Food Stores.
The association is holding its general membership meeting at 4 p.m. May 18 at the gallery.
