The Donaldsonville Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council attended an all-day Leadership Academy on Aug. 29 in Donaldsonville.

City leaders and Advisory Council Coordinator Tamiko Garrison hosted the event at Donaldsonville High School.

The Leadership Academy was designed to provide the youth advisory commissioners with the tools necessary to be effective and efficient youth leaders in Donaldsonville, Garrison said.

Mayor Leroy Sullivan talked about the duties of a mayor, and Councilmen Raymond Aucoin, Charles Brown, Lauthaught Delaney and Reginald Francis talked about the duties of City Council members.

Presentation were given by Terry Joseph, Cynthia Buggage, Nicole A. Learson, Rodney Braxton and Sherrie Williams.

MYAC consists of a group of students committed to making a difference in Donaldsonville, Garrison said. They work on issues important to youths and talk to their peers, families and neighbors about their concerns in order to take action.
