Sen. Troy Brown hosted a dinner for the four winners of his annual scholarship fund June 4 at Cafe Lafourche in Donaldsonville.
The 2014 scholarships awards were the third installment in what has become an annual tradition for Brown, a news release from the senator’s office said.
The scholarships are offered to graduating seniors at five high schools from alternating parishes in District 2. Students with a 3.0 or higher grade-point average submitted essays outlining their plans to return to their hometown after obtaining their post-high school education and helping support their community through direct or government service, the release said.
Brown hosted scholarship winners and their parents at the celebration.
Receiving $500 each were Emily Sauce, E.D. White High School; Lindsey R. Stewart, Assumption High; Asha Pierce, St. James High; and Paul Bailey, Port Allen High.
“This is an annual initiative that I started three years ago, and intend to do it as long as I am a legislator,” Brown said. “Our kids are the future, and that requires me as a leader to do what I can to help them achieve success.”
