The Gonzales Firefighters Association held its annual Boston Butts pork roast fundraiser on July 2 to raise money for charitable causes, events, functions and sponsorships.

This year, nearly 700 roasts were sold in a matter of hours at the Gonzales Fire Department on Orice Roth Road, a news release said. After expenses, the association raised a little more than $10,000.

“This is an event we look forward to every year,” said Corey Gautreaux, president of the Gonzales Firefighters Association. “We get together and start cooking the afternoon before, and the camaraderie between us all is a huge part of the fun of the fundraiser. Seeing the appreciation on people’s faces and listening to them rave about the butts is another. We’ll be doing this for many years to come and only hope to grow the event so more people can sample what we have to offer.”
