Law enforcement from Ascension Parish took part in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run on May 21.

This year, the Gonzales Police Department had five runners take part in a run that sees residents lining the streets to cheer on the men and women running, a news release from the Gonzales Police Department said.

Cpl. Randy Clouatre Jr., Officer Derek LeBlanc, Warrants Officer Gerard Breaux, Officer Sloane Erdey and School Resource Officer Lee Stromberg ran the 3.2 miles of the Torch Run, led by Motors Officers Brad Schexnayder and Stephen Ussery.

The team was mentored by Maj. Ward Webb with Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Chief Carl Dabadie with Baton Rouge Police Department.

This year’s run saw residents of the local Community Opportunities of East Ascension join in the final steps as officers from both departments cheered them on.
