St. John Primary and St. Theresa Middle school officials announced students who won at the state level in the 2014 Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Aviation Art Contest.
St. John Primary student Kyler Dupuy placed third in the 6- to 7-year-old age group.
St. John Primary student Cooper Ancale placed first, St. Theresa Middle student Cameron Sheehan placed second and St. John Primary student Audrey Soulier was third in the 8- to 9-year-old age group.
At St. Theresa Middle, Benjamin LeBoeuf finished in first place, Zachary Browning placed second and Augie Chopin placed third in the 12- to 13-year-old age group.
Ancale’s and Sheehan’s artwork continued on to compete at the national level.
The theme for this year’s contest was “Flying Saves Lives.”
The contest was designed to encourage young people throughout Louisiana to become more familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering and science while allowing young adults to learn about aviation and the unlimited career opportunities it offers, a news release said.
Winners received a certificate, a color copy of their artwork and assorted gifts from sponsors. First-place winners also will receive a free EAA Young Eagle Flight airplane ride over the Gonzales and Prairieville areas.
