The Awesome Art on the Bayou Arts, Crafts and Cultural Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the banks of Bayou Francois in Gonzales, adjacent to Jambalaya Park. There is no charge to attend.

Activities include a judged art show, arts and crafts booths, entertainment by local groups, a children’s art village and food.

Featured local musical talent includes Baton Rouge songwriter Steve Judice, who has opened for Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver and Ray Wylie Hubbard.

Navigating puberty

“Growing Up: Girls, a Class for Preteen Girls” will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sister Vernola conference room at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

This class is for girls ages 9 to 11 and their mothers and will help girls understand the physical and emotional changes that accompany puberty.

Gather ’round the fire

Campfires and Marshmallows is coming to Ascension Parish Library this month. Kids will sit around the campfire and listen to stories, make sculptures out of marshmallows and toothpicks, listen to fun, creepy music and play with marshmallow poppers.
