The Hammond Area Recreation Department held their sixth annual Veterans Luncheon to honor local area veterans Thursday at the Hammond Recreation Department.

Veterans from all wars attended the event. Attending the luncheon were local members of the Women Veterans of Louisiana. As part of the festivities, the oldest veterans of each conflict received Eagle Medals. Lillie Clark, Women Army Corp veteran and Theresa “Teddy” Anderson, Army Air Corp flight nurse, were honored as the oldest veterans in attendance from World War II. Mary Beth Foster was honored as the oldest veteran from Operation Desert Storm and Tanya Whitney, of Ascension Parish, was honored as the oldest veteran of operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Women Veterans of Louisiana is open to any honorable discharged woman veteran or any woman currently serving on active duty or in the Reserve forces. For information, email wvola@cox.net.
