Gonzales Primary School student Salvador Levario competed in the Baton Rouge Math Contest on Feb. 16 at Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School.

Fifth-grade teachers Mistie Merrell and Preston Magourick entered Salvador in the contest, which included 216 students.

The math contest stressed basic mathematics skills using pencil and paper, Merrell said in a news release.

“Salvador worked hard to complete the 60 question multiple choice test, which was aligned to the Common Core State Standards,” she said.

Salvador placed 54th or in the top 25 percent in the contest, she said.
