LSU Horticulture agent Craig Roussel presented certificates to the graduates, who finished approximately 50 hours of gardening instruction from LSU AgCenter specialists, LSU Extension agents and Master Gardeners.
During the next year, the graduates will complete 40 hours of volunteer service to the community to fulfill their final requirement to become a Certified Master Gardener, a news release said.
After becoming fully certified, Master Gardeners must complete 20 volunteer hours and six education hours each year to maintain their certification, the release said.
Guest speaker Smiley Anders shared his best jokes and said in his 36 years as a journalist, he has never run out of discovering new random acts of kindness in the Baton Rouge area community. A potluck supper was served.
