Ascension Amateur Radio Club will host the annual Amateur Radio Relay League Field Day from 1 p.m. June 27 to 1 p.m. June 28 at the club’s communications trailer, which will be parked at the Gonzales Fire Department, 724 W. Orice Roth Road.

Field Day is open to the community. Nonlicensed people are encouraged to use the equipment and try their hand at amateur radio.

The event demonstrates the club’s ability to quickly set up radio equipment in a remote location using alternative power sources and to remain on air for 24 consecutive hours, a news release said.

It also is a national contest for all ham radio operators to make as many contacts as possible.

AARC, a local nonprofit, provides communications assistance during local emergencies and with such community events as the Gonzales Christmas Parade. For more information or to become a member, go to or “like” the club’s Facebook page.
