DONALDSONVILLE — At her first meeting as acting schools superintendent until a new one is hired for the Ascension Parish public schools, A. Denise Graves introduced new assistant principals for four of the district’s schools.
Graves was named interim superintendent last month, after Patrice Pujol announced she was retiring to take an executive position with a national education organization.
Pujol’s last day as schools superintendent was Monday.
The new assistant principals are Carlotta Williams, Duplessis Primary; Moquita Winey, Gonzales Primary; Lydia Mabile, Lowery Elementary; and Robyn Simmons, Dutchtown High.
Graves took a moment at the end of Tuesday’s meeting for the “privilege to recognize” her father, Nathaniel Graves, who had come to the meeting to see his daughter in her official role as superintendent.
“He said he’s so proud of me, but I’m so proud of him as a parent,” Graves said.
“He’s 83 years young and still going strong,” she added.
The board also heard two committee reports Tuesday.
Board member John Murphy, chairman of the insurance committee, said the School Board’s consultants report shows that the school district’s property insurance, coming up for renewal, would have a lower premium this year, an annual savings of approximately $185,000.
Board President Pat Russo reported that the executive committee has asked two national search firms to make a presentation to the board, in the near future, in its search for a replacement for Pujol.
