All Ascension Parish Library locations will be closed Sunday to Tuesday in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Regular hours will resume Wednesday.
Christmas tree drop-off
Ascension Parish's Christmas tree drop-off starts Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, 9039 St. Landry Road, Gonzales. The program continues through Jan. 12.
After parish residents enter the expo center’s main gate on St. Landry Road, the drop off location will be the unpaved parking area on the left side as you enter the property. Signage will direct residents as they enter the property.
Parish officials said trees must not have any decorations or stands on them.

“Taking the First Step: Exercise’s Role in Better Glucose Control” is the topic of a Thriving with Diabetes class at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Sister Vernola conference room at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Physical therapist Tom Weber will talk about regular activity as a key part of managing diabetes, along with proper meal planning, taking medications as prescribed and stress management.

Learn about gluten-free living for people with celiac disease and nonceliac gluten sensitivity with Dr. Elizabeth Bollinger at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The class will be held on the second-floor mezzanine of Rouses Market on Airline Highway at Duplessis Road in Gonzales.
Bollinger will be joined by a dietitian and a Rouses chef for the class, which will focus on navigating the grocery store, transitioning families to a gluten-free lifestyle and preparing in advance for dining out.

The Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland holiday light display at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center ends Jan. 7. The 2-mile-long display features a synchronized LED light show with large animated displays.
Hours are dusk to 10 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and 11 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Cost is $25 per car and $40 for activity vans and small buses.
College funding seminar

Parents and students are invited to learn about how financial aid works with career coach Shannon Hattier, who will talk about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid process and how to qualify for and keep a Taylor Opportunity Program for Students award.
