Philip Goppelt is running for election to the Ascension Parish Council District 2 seat.
Goppelt, 20, a Republican, said he will not make “fanciful promises of what would happen if you, the voters, decide to elect me.”
“I leave that fruitless exercise to those politicians who have developed it into an art form,” he said in a announcement.
He promised that, if elected, he will “always tell the truth, listen to you, and serve you in any reasonable and lawful way that I can. I will give the office of a parish councilman all of the skill and care that I can muster.”
Goppelt is an honors graduate of LSU, where he studied civil engineering, structural engineering and surveying. He works for a Baton Rouge-based engineering and surveying consulting firm and is a registered engineer intern and land surveyor intern. His hobbies include personal finance and technology.
“I believe councilmen should always tell the truth, always do what they say, finish what they start, and be wise and impartial stewards of the millions of dollars that pass through their hands,” he said.
District 2 includes parts of Donaldsonville, Sorrento, Burnside, Gonzales, Brittany and St. Amant.
The primary election is Oct. 24.
