River Region Art Association is opening its doors this month for two community events.
River Region Art Association Depot Gallery is devoting space in its gift shop to the Kapz4Kidz show, an outreach program that sells knit and crochet hats for children undergoing chemotherapy.
All proceeds from the sale of the caps will be given to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, a news release from the River Region Art Association said.
The Kapz4Kidz sale will continue through February, the release said.
A jewelry trunk show with complimentary wine tasting donated by LeBlanc’s Food Store will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the depot, 1008 W. La. 30, in Gonzales.
The event will feature Mickey Martin as the sommelier. Special discounts will be offered on selected items.
The trunk show features the work of seven jewelers, who offer an array of styles.
The River Region Art Association operates two art galleries that showcase member’s artwork year-round, the release said. The Depot Gallery serves as the association’s primary location for its art gallery, workshops, classes, meetings, receptions, resource library and office space.
The Depot Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays.
The Art Gallery at Houmas House is a secondary gallery. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located in the Houmas House Plantation Gift Shop, 40136 La. 932, in Darrow.
On display at both galleries are oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, drawings, photography, digital art, jewelry, pottery, crafts and affordable cards and prints — all created by members of the association. The galleries are staffed by volunteer docents.
