The Pelican Point Waves swim team completed its seventh season, and won the Bayou Summer Swim League Championships and the SELA All-Star Invitational.
The Waves were named the Bayou League champions after winning for the second consecutive year against the Gramercy Marlins, Jefferson Terrace Jetstreams, Westminster Sharks and Parkview Oaks Gators.
Waves’ swimmers broke 25 league records at the meet and five team records.
Double gold medalists in individual events were Zach Babin, Olivia Brunet, Blaine Dodson, Gabriella Fouchi, Meghan Gauldin, Reece Gauldin, Ryan Hurst, Isabella McKeough, Jonathan McKeough, Drew Tureau and Jenna VanHoogstraten. Single gold medalists in individual events were Alli Adams, Justin Chase, Brett Dodson, Vladimir Furl, Bo Gautreau, Drue Gautreau, Chase Masten, Mia Robichaux and Michelle West.
Waves’ swimmers winning gold medals for relays were the girls 8-year-old and under freestyle and medley relays, 9- to 10-year-old free and medley relays, 11- to 12-year-old freestyle and medley relays; boys 6 and under freestyle relay, 7- to 8-year-old freestyle relay, 9- to 10-year-old freestyle and medley relays, 11- to 12-year-old freestyle and medley relays, 13- to 14-year-old medley relay and 15- to 18-year-old freestyle and medley relays.
At the first SELA All-Star Invitational, the Waves competed against the Bocage Swim and Tennis Club Sharks, Chateau Gold and Country Club Jambalaya Park Pool Dolphins and Tara Tarpons.
Waves’ swimmers also earned awards as the top pyramid relay team and first place in the 9-year-old and under category. The team won first in the team quality category, averaging more than 13 points scored per swimmer. Eight Waves team records were broken at the meet.
Two Waves swimmers received the Meet High Point award. In the boys’ 8-year-old and under age group, Reece Gauldin placed first. In the 9-year-old and under age group Zach Babin was first.
Double gold medal winners were Zach Babin, Gabriella Fouchi, Reece Gauldin, Ryan Hurst and Miranda Nichols. Single gold medal winners were Alli Adam, Blaine Dodson, Cody Hurst, Marissa Nichols, Mia Robichaux, Myah Robichaux, Drew Tureau and Jenna VanHoogstraten. Swimmers received gold medals for performances in the girls’ pyramid, 9/10 freestyle and medley relays, 11/12 freestyle and medley relays, 13/14 medley relay, 15-18 medley relay; boys 6 and under free relay and 13/14 freestyle and medley relays.
