The Ascension Parish Council and Parish President Kenny Matassa honored Volunteer Ascension during a Nov. 30 meeting in Gonzales.

Matassa declared Nov. 30 as Volunteer Ascension Day, marking the nonprofit agency's 20th birthday.

Volunteer Ascension Executive Director Sherry Denig and board President James E. LeBlanc outlined the services provided by the group and thanked the community for its continued support.

The agency organizes school uniform and supply drives, organizes relief efforts during emergencies and supplies volunteers to countless area events.
