GONZALES — A commercial truck carrying industrial bottles of gases used in welding ran off of La. 929, between Daigle Road and Airline Highway in Ascension Parish, at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, spilling the bottles into ditches on both sides of the road and prompting a closure of the road while it was cleared, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Chief Deputy Bobby Webre said late Tuesday afternoon.

Webre said the truck was blocking the road. The bottles that fell out of the truck carried oxygen, acetylene and argon, gases used in welding.

Webre said one of the bottles leaked its contents harmlessly into the air.

The Ascension Parish government sent a community alert Tuesday afternoon saying that, due to a portion of La. 929 being blocked to all traffic, including school buses, that students who lived in the area would stay at their respective schools until their parents could pick them up.
