Ascension Sheriff Jeff Wiley recent presented students with scholarships from two programs designed to help students pay college expenses.

Wiley awarded the Dawn Shivers Memorial Scholarship Program prizes to Parker Vige, East Ascension High School, $1,200; Britt Alexander, St. Amant, $500 and Tyler Broussard, St. Amant, $500.

Wiley established a scholarship fund for graduating high school seniors in honor of Dawn Shivers, a retired employee of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office who died in 2013 from cancer.

Wiley also announced that two high school seniors in Ascension Parish have been named recipients of a Louisiana Sheriffs Association Scholarship Program academic scholarship. Receiving the $500 LSA scholarships were Jade DelValle, Dutchtown High School; Jason Williams, Donaldsonville High School, and Broussard.

“Academic awards by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program to Louisiana students demonstrate what the LSHMP is all about,” Wiley said. “This is one of our finest accomplishments that invests in Louisiana’s future and gives something back to our community. This would not be possible without the kind and generous support of Ascension Parish’s Honorary Members.”
