June Williams, of Paulina, shuffled her three children through a series of informational booths and games Sunday as they waited for their turn to get free haircuts.
Williams called the sixth annual Back 2 School N Style event “a blessing” and a fun family day.
Her children, ages 5, 3 and 1, were among the more than 200 who took advantage of the free hair services, medical testing and other services provided Sunday.
The event, hosted at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, was organized by Anointed Hands Salon and More.
Salon owner Tona Tureaud said the event is designed to promote hygiene and “help lift a child’s self-esteem.”
“Getting a new hairstyle or haircut makes anyone feel good and that’s what we want to do for these kids — make them feel good about themselves,” Tureaud said.
Several businesses and nonprofit groups volunteered for the event.
