Ascension Catholic High School hosted a signing day event on April 15 in Donaldsonville with two student athletes declaring their intentions to play at the next level.

Senior Zachary Capello signed a letter of commitment to study and run cross country and track and field at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Capello was recruited by Yale, LSU and other universities across the nation, a news release from the school said. Capello’s accomplishments include being the four time Louisiana Class 1A cross country individual state champion; a member of the four time Louisiana Class 1A team state champions, and being named to the East Baton Rouge All-Metro Team for four consecutive years. He is also an eight time Louisiana Class 1A state champion in track and field.

Capello will graduate with a 4.2 grade-point average. He will enroll at Yale in the fall.

Senior Tucker Landry signed a letter of commitment to study and to play golf at Loyola University in New Orleans. The Loyola University golf team is led by coach Jeff Lorio.

“We are extremely excited and honored to add Tucker to our golf program,” Lorio said. “He is both a great student, a very talented player that has a high ceiling.”

Landry’s accomplishments include finishing in the top of the tournament in the Division IV state golf championship for the last two years, being named to the East Baton Rouge All-Metro Team for the last three years, and consistently finishing in the top five in tournaments held across the Southeast. Landry will graduate from ACHS with a 4.0 GPA and enroll at Loyola University in the fall.

ACHS Principal Sandy Pizzolato celebrated the accomplishments with these two scholar athletes.

“I am extremely proud of these two young men,” she said. “Both of these students are a true representation of a model student-athlete. It has been an honor to have watched them succeed throughout the years. Although they will be missed, I must say that I am looking forward to seeing what will come next for these two exceptional young men.”
