Past Miss Gonzales Jambalaya queens gathered May 9 at the home of Frank and Carol Frederic in St. Amant to reminisce about their days as local royalty.
Queens who reigned when the Jambalaya Festival first began meet some of the more recent queens and the newly crowned Miss Gonzales Jambalaya Queen, Alyssa Hughes, and the Teen Miss Gonzales Jambalaya Queen, Grace Graugnard.
The reigning World Champion jambalaya-cooking champ “Hoss” Reine prepared jambalaya.
Some of the queens brought scrapbooks and mementos to share. The queens also had the opportunity to view the historical scrapbook being assembled by Carol Frederic, which shows the 47-year history of the Jambalaya Festival queens and cooking champs. Also in attendance were several of the first Miss Gonzales Queens dating back from the 1950s.
The Miss Jambalaya and Miss Gonzales pageants were merged several years ago.
Frederic said she is working to find the names of the past Miss Gonzales queens.
Past Miss Gonzales queens crowned from the 1950s to 1980 can call Frederic at (225) 675-5000.
