Central Primary School third-graders ended the school year by learning a lesson in giving.
Third-grade teacher Trey “Coach TV” Veazey’s team collected books as part of a project for the nonprofit group Milk + Bookies, which teaches children how great it feels to give back while celebrating the love of a good book, Veazey said.
The team donated more than 450 books to the Eli Manning Children’s Clinic, part of the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Each book featured an inscribed bookplate, completed by the donating student, that listed the child’s name and a hopeful message.
The donations were made in memory of John Pearson Clay, the 4-month-old son of Wesley and Lauren Clay, who died on the day of the book collection.
The Clays and Veazey are alumni of the University of Mississippi.
