GONZALES — A public hearing is scheduled Dec. 7 at the next meeting of the Gonzales Planning and Zoning Commission regarding a rezoning request for some 40 acres on West Orice Roth Road.
The property owner local developer Sonny Lamendola, is seeking a rezoning from residential to commercial retail, to create a buffer between two projects, an office-warehouse complex called Commerce Park and a residential subdivision called Gonzales Trace, that he’s developing on adjacent property.
Earlier this year, Lamendola had said he was considering donating the property to the city for possible use as a park.
Since that time, St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales has arisen as a possible recipient of the property.
“St. Theresa is interested in the property and is in discussions with the land owner,” Dwight Poirrier, a Gonzales attorney representing the church, said after Monday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
