The Ascension Veterans Association is accepting applications for its first college scholarship program.

The program is not limited to high school students and is designed to honor residents for “accomplishing exemplary civic service and patriotic ideology,” Ascension Veterans Association President Tanya Whitney said.

Up to three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2014-15 academic year subject to availability of funds and qualifying participants, she said.

The scholarship can be used for payment of tuition, books, lab fees and other related expenses, she said.

Scholarships are not renewable, and recipients may reapply for subsequent scholarships provided they continue to meet the established criteria and eligibility, she said.

Deadline for application is Dec. 31.
